Real is the better deal during Real Nappy Week

April 19th, 2016 Martin Walker News 0 comments 0

Real is the better deal as County Durham residents are encouraged to use real nappies during Real Nappy Week.

Durham County Council’s strategic waste team is supporting the 20th annual event which takes place from Monday 18 until Sunday 24 April 2016.

Run by Go Real, Real Nappy Week’s theme is Real Nappies, Real Change, which aims to inspire a new generation of parents to make the change from disposable nappies to cloth nappies.

Victoria Burrell, Durham County Council’s strategy team manager, said: “Families who make the switch could potentially save anywhere from £100 to £1000 and also improve the environment.

“Using real nappies instead of disposable ones means carbon savings of up to 40% and it prevents over 4,000 nappies from going to disposal for every baby using real nappies.”

Currently UK families send 355,000 tonnes of single use of nappies to disposal each year, costing local authorities and taxpayers £32m a year.

Real nappies come in a range of materials, designs, colours and patterns, including bespoke ones, all of which are kind to baby skin.

Parents who use disposable nappies will need to bag and place them into the rubbish bin for disposal as they can’t be recycled.
