POW campaign expands its reach to Aycliffe and Darlington

March 5th, 2024 Martin Walker Business 0 comments 0

Two local businesswomen have joined forces to help expand the reach of the Power of Women campaign with a special event next week.

Marcia Atkinson (above left), finance director of Newton Aycliffe-based BTS Facades and Fabrications, and Nicky Jolley, managing director of Darlington HR agency HR2day, are helping to organise the ‘POWwow’ networking event at Rockliffe Hall on Monday (March 11).

Designed specifically for businesswomen, POW’s networking events gather like-minded women to connect, learn and grow together, and have already proved successful in the Tees Valley region.

At the Rockliffe Hall event on Monday, being held from 10am until 1pm, there’ll be updates on local news and business developments from Darlington MP Peter Gibson.

Reshma Begum, representing the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), will delve into essential strategies and resources vital for business success in today’s competitive landscape.

And attendees will discover the transformative power of mindset with Ruth ‘Feel Amazing Therapist’ Smith.

“We are looking forward to supporting POW as we believe every child should be allowed the same opportunities irrespective of their gender or background,” said Marcia.

“We can’t wait to engage with our chosen school and start empowering and nurturing children and spreading the POW message in County Durham.”

Nicky added: “Many women experience barriers throughout their careers, particularly those working in male-dominated environments.

“The POW campaign inspires resistance and encourages young women to thrive and realise their full potential, paving the way to successful careers for future female generations – and I am all for that!”.

The POW campaign was launched three years ago and was inspired by the late, great professor Jane Turner OBE.

The aim of the campaign is to lift and shift the aspirations and ambitions of young people in the region.

POW currently has 52 ambassadors and has so far engaged with 2,000 schoolchildren.

Campaign manager Sophie McKenna said: “At POW, we understand the power of connections and the importance of continuous growth.

“That’s why we are thrilled to invite you to join us at Rockliffe Hall for an event designed specifically for women like us.

“It’s not just about networking or gaining insights; it’s about creating meaningful connections that propel us forward.

“By getting involved, you’re not just attending an event; you’re investing in your success and the success of others.”

Registration for Monday’s event is £25, which includes lunch. Free parking is available.
