Police confirm identity of Burtree crash victim

Police have confirmed the identity of the man who was tragically killed in a car accident near Newton Aycliffe.

Police have completed a formal identification on the victim, confirmed as that of 28-year-old Darren Stephenson-Bennett, from Aycliffe.

In a statement issued through their police liaison officer, Mr Stephenson-Bennett’s family said: “Darren was a much-loved husband, father, son and brother who was devoted to his family and his daughters.

“Darren was a popular person who would do anything for anybody. He was well-liked by all who knew him, extremely laid back and easy going, and no-one had a bad word to say about him.”

The family have also added that due to the circumstances they have found themselves in, that their privacy is respected during this difficult and distressing time, affording them the opportunity to grieve the loss of Darren.
