Police appeal after spate of burglaries

January 21st, 2016 Martin Walker News 0 comments 0

Newton Aycliffe police are appealing for information after four burglaries in the town this week.

Officers believe all four incidents are connected after thieves struck two shops in Woodham Village.

Between 6pm on Monday and 1am on Tuesday, £1,100-worth of Joico hair products were stolen from Lagoon Hair and Beauty. About 70 bottles were taken along with £90 from the till.

Reds fish bar was also targeted between 11.55pm on Monday and 1.30am on Tuesday.

CCTV footage shows two male suspects taking the till and safe, including £200 in cash, as well as keys to a Smart car. The till was later recovered in General Bucher Court, Bishop Auckland.

Both offenders are described as wearing dark clothing with dark headwear. One was wearing a striped top and Adidas tracksuit bottoms.

Meanwhile, two homes in the area were also targeted overnight on Tuesday.

Two petrol Husqvarna chainsaws – one orange and one white and orange – worth £470 were stolen from a detached garage in Biscop Crescent.

And thieves took a grey Seat Leon and a blue Audi A4 from a property in Mellanby Crescent after “fishing” for the keys through a letterbox.

The Seat was found abandoned in Swan Walk at 6am on Wednesday morning, but the Audi – which has a 55 plate – is still missing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 and ask to speak to Neighbourhood Police Team Inspector Mark Edwards.
