November 6th, 2018 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Pioneering Care Partnership is inviting armed service personnel, veterans, friends and the wider community to attend their Armistice celebration to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.

The event will be delivered in partnership with the Covenant Fund Trust together with the charity, ‘Remembered, who run There But not There’.

The commemoration is part of nationwide programme of events taking place on Monday, November 12, at Pioneering Care Partnership’s Centre in Newton Aycliffe.

Pill Wilson MP will open the event at 10am and speak about his experiences of working with the RAF for a year, as Member of the House of Commons Defence Committee.

The committee looks at all aspects of defence from welfare of armed services personnel to equipment and strategy.

There will be displays from; the RAF Be-friending service, Beamish Museum and Darlington College of Technology.

A minute’s silence will take place at 11am lead by Yvonne Wood, a member of Aycliffe and Brancepeth band whom will play The Last Post.

Entertainment will take the form of a traditional Tea Dance at 1pm including live singing from local ladies singing group, Harmony.

PCP chief executive Carol Gaskarth said: “We’re very much looking forward to hosting our Armistice event, in organising this event approximately 40 ‘Options’ members have engaged in a full programme of learning and awareness of the First World War, they have also been fully involved in the planning of the event.

“We look forward to welcoming services personnel, veterans and the wider community to the event, everybody is very welcome.”

Garden Kitchen will be open during the event with a selection of food themed from the era. Please note admission to the event is free (charges apply for refreshments and retail items).
