GRAVE THIEF PLEADS GUILTY

A man has admitted stealing a number of treasured items from graves in Newton Aycliffe during a four-year period.

David Gary Ryan, now of Darlington, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods at Durham Crown Court on Monday.

This relates to offences which occurred at the West Cemetry, School Aycliffe last year, while his offences range from September 2009 through to November 2013.

Ryan was remanded in custody, awaiting pre-sentencing report, and is due to re-appear for sentencing on 30th May.

“The team would like to thank everyone for their continued patience whilst this investigations have been taking place,” said PC Mike Welch, of the Aycliffe Neighbourhood Police Team.
