Gin bar’s opening event raises £1,400+ for local cancer charity

August 25th, 2020 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

The official opening of a new gin bar in Newton Aycliffe helped to raise hundreds of pounds for a local charity.

Wayne Richardson and Colin Scott launched the Aviator Gin Bar and the Herbal Gin Company on Aycliffe Business Park this summer.

Tickets were sold for its official opening, which raised £920, while a raffle added another £539 to the pot for the Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group.

The cash will help to fund vital local services helping people suffering with cancer.

“Since lockdown we were struggling after losing so much money due to cancelled fundraisers,” said Allison White, chair of the cancer support group.

“But we are still providing most of our free services such as patient transport, financial help, food hampers and advice.

“Our patient transport service have seen a huge increase since lockdown started, due to ambulances needing to be elsewhere. We were helping out hospitals needing to get their cancer patients to hospital for life-saving treatment.

“Wayne contacted me to offer support by organising a fundraising event – they sold tickets to their customers for entry to this fantastic new business along, with members of Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group popping along to sell raffle tickets.

“Both the charity and the Aviator Gin Bar would like to thank everyone for supporting the event.”
