GET ON THE BALL!

May 9th, 2012 Martin Walker News, Sport 0 comments 0

Get On the Ball this summer and take part in a variety of football activities which are kicking off across County Durham – including Aycliffe Leisure Centre.

On the Ball features football leagues, coaching camps and fitness sessions for all ages and abilities and the activities are taking place at Durham County Council’s leisure centres.

The On the Ball 5 A-Side Football Leagues offer weekly fixtures for adult men’s and women’s teams – there’s also a special over 35’s men’s league.

There is a choice of sessions, both indoors and out and the matches will be professionally refereed. Each league will have fantastic weekly and seasonal championship prizes.

Kids can get in on the action too. School and local clubs can join the On the Ball Junior Leagues for ages 11 to 16 years.

At the weekly indoor football sessions, qualified staff will be on hand to support the talents of young players, encouraging healthy competition as well as the development of new skills.

For even more in-depth tutoring, a budding star, school or youth group can take part in the On the Ball Junior Skills Coaching and Camps.

These tailor made football sessions will help build confidence in even the newest and youngest players. The holiday camps will also create a fun and exciting learning experience for children between six and nine years.

Football fans who want to improve their fitness levels can take part in the On the Ball Football Fitness sessions. The classes are football-themed circuit training sessions which are suitable for both beginners and intermediate levels. Led by fully qualified football coaches, the classes will be great for both personal and team training.

Durham County Council’s strategic manager for sport and leisure, Julie Russell said:  “With professionally managed and refereed matches, our fully inclusive On the Ball leagues will offer an exciting and challenging environment to play competitive football with excellent weekly and seasonal prizes.”

Registration for the leagues starts on Thursday, 10 May. The action will kick off on Monday, 18 June across the county in the following leisure centres: Spennymoor, Newton Aycliffe, Freeman’s Quay, Shildon, Teesdale, Meadowfield, Abbey.
