Families can meet real-life superheroes

September 30th, 2018 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Families can find out more about the work of our real-life superheroes at a free family fun day held in October.

The ‘PCVC Celebration of Local Superheroes’ event will showcase and raise awareness of all the good work that is happening in our local communities, thanking those who go above and beyond to help others in our local area.

Hosted by Ron Hogg, the Durham Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner, the family event is free, with free parking, and will be held on Saturday 27 October 2018 at Locomotion, in Shildon from 10am–3pm.

Hogg said: “I’m delighted that this annual event is now a firm family favourite. It really has grown year-on-year.

“Over 10,000 people attended the day last year. It is great that we can give families the opportunity to come along and enjoy themselves, whilst also learning about community safety.

“A lot of the work organisations do is hidden so this is a great way for us to show the hidden things which they do.

“I encourage people to come along and have a free day out with all of the family. The event will be happening come rain or shine, and this year it will be autism-friendly until 12pm.”

There will be some familiar faces from the emergency services including, the Police (including the Police Interceptors, as seen on TV), Fire and Rescue Service, Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue along with local community and voluntary organisations.

The public will have the opportunity to get involved with various interactive activities and demonstrations.

One of the highlights of the day is the fancy dress competition at 12.00pm noon, where children can come as their favourite character, local superhero, or halloween outfits.

Adults are being encouraged to share their comments, photos and videos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #CelebrateLocalSuperheroes

Picnic tables are also available if families prefer to bring their food with them.

There’s no need to book, just turn up on the day (either with, or without, fancy dress!) For updates, find us on Facebook (search for Durham PCC), or visit: www.durham-pcc.gov.uk
