E.ON TO DISPLAY WIND FARM PLANS

An energy firm plans to consult locals on its preferred lay-out for a controversial 24-turbine wind farm.

E.ON is proposing to build two clusters of seven turbines and one of 17 more than a mile apart east of Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.

The scheme, known as The Isles, was original drawn up by E.ON to hold 45 turbines but it was re-drafted E.ON says the wind farm will generate 63.5MW which will create enough power to power around 35,000 homes.

The new proposals are to be put on show at a series of public events during E.ON’s second stage of consultations.

The responses gathered at the events will be used by E.ON in its submission of the plans to the Planning Inspectorate in 2013.

The formal stage two of the Isles consultation runs between July 5 and September 9 with sessions around the area in July.

The events are at:

● Chilton and Windlestone Working Mens’ Club, Tuesday 10, 4pm to 8pm

● Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, Thursday 12, 1pm to 8pm

● Sedgefield Parish Hall, Friday 13, 10am to 2pm

● Mordon Village Hall, Friday 13, 4pm to 8pm

● Chilton and Windlestone Working Mens’ Club, Saturday 14, 9am to 2pm
