DRINK-DRIVE TAKEAWAY WOMAN BANNED

December 10th, 2012 Martin Walker News 2 comments 0

A Newton Aycliffe woman who tried to drive drunk through the wrong end of the McDonald’s drive-through has been banned.

Katie Howe, 22, of Mellanby Crescent in the town, tried to access the McDonalds, just off the A1, while she was twice the legal alcohol limit.

As reported by The Northern Echo, she arrived at the take-away in her Vauxhall Corsa at 12.30pm on November 17, magistrates in Newton Aycliffe were told.

Prosecutor John Garside said that she then tried to go into the drive through section the wrong way.

Mr Garside said this meant that two cars trying to use the facility properly had to reverse rapidly and these two vehicles sustained some damage. Howe’s car was not damaged.

Police were called and Howe gave a breath test reading of 73mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the drink drive limit is 35mg.

Howe pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving at the court.

She was fined £110 and will pay a £20 victim surcharge, and was banned from driving for 20 months.
