DARE-DEVIL COLLEAGUES TO TREK HADRIAN’S WALL

July 30th, 2013 Martin Walker News 0 comments 0

ROC THE WALL!

A group of work colleagues who completed the Three Peaks Challenge are planning to trek along Hadrian’s Wall in another fundraising effort.

Fifteen members of staff at housing charity ROCSOLID, based at Hope House in the Horndale area of the town, raised hundreds of pounds after completing the Peaks challenge last summer, scaling the biggest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales.

In August this year, 14 people will walk along Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland to raise much-needed cash.

ROCSOLID is a Newton Aycliffe charity which helps vulnerable young people, including care leavers to learn the skills they need to live independently.

The young people all receive one-on-one support each week from their key worker and they are all encouraged to be in some sort of training, education or, if they are very fortunate, employment.

“It’s true to say that our young people are among the most disadvantaged in the area and that life has given them some significant knocks,” say organisers.

“Fourteen amazing volunteers, some of them charity staff, young people who reside at Rocsolid and local beat officers are taking up the Hadrians Walk Challenge on 5,6 and 7 August this year.

“All the money raised will go towards confidence-building activity breaks for our young people, some of whom have never been out of an urban environment.

“We want to take them to rural outward bound centres so they can do team building activities and learn important things about themselves by overcoming personal challenges.

“We are asking local people and businesses to support this event.”
