Dance Showcase at Woodham Academy

April 26th, 2016 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Woodham Academy students are showcasing their talents at an annual event taking place this week.

The students that are part of the Dance Academy have been rehearsing a range of pieces for various performances.

They have worked extremely hard in learning and choreographing different dances, working closely with their PE Teacher, and Kay Clarey from Joanne Banks Dancers.

The Dance Academy consists of 36 extremely talented young adults who attend rehearsals every Wednesday after school as well as showing extra commitment during most lunch times.

The Dance Academy, who will be competing in the Great Big Dance Off in Northampton this summer have had many previous successes and are recognised around the county.

They have performed most recently in the Durham Gala Showcase, dancing to a very high standard in front of other schools in the district.

They have also performed at other events such as the SSP Dance Festival and Rotary Christmas Concert at the Leisure Centre.

The Dance Showcase will be held at Woodham Academy on Thursday (28th April), starting at 7pm until 9pm. There will be a fantastic display of dance as well as some gymnastics. There will also be a raffle and refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome and we really appreciate all the support.

During the performance, Charlie Lough and Greenfield College student, Emily Halford will perform as part of a fundraising effort to raise £8,000 for a dream trip to Hollywood.

The dancing duo were scouted at the Move It Dance Convention in London and are now pulling out all the stops to raise the amount so they can travel to The Hollywood Summer Tour in Los Angeles for a dance scholarship.
