CRICKET SEASON GETS UNDER WAY!

Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s first team begin their NYSD Division Two season this weekend (Saturday) when they welcome newly-promoted Whitby to Newton Aycliffe Sports Club.

Newton Aycliffe have made two exciting signings during the winter with all rounder John Cavanagh and wicket keeper/batsman Tom Young joining from Sedgefield.

Both players have experience of playing at this level and will help strengthen this season’s squad.

Although Young is unavailable on Saturday, he is expected to make his debut in next week’s away game at Wolviston.

Cavanagh, however, who was NYSD Division Two Player of the Year in 2013, will make his much anticipated debut in Saturday’s fixture.

The 2nd team begin their new season with a difficult away trip to Division Three pre-season title favourites Norton CC.

However with a mixture of experienced players and developing junior players it is hoped that the 2nd team will more than hold their own in division 3 this season after exceeding expectations with some good results in the second half of last season, eventually finishing in a very credible sixth place.

Both games this weekend start at 12.30pm.

Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Frank’s The Flooring Store have not only agreed to continue their principal shirt sponsorship for the 2015 season but have extended this sponsorship to cover all six of the clubs sides including all of the junior sides.

Innovations will also continue as the Club’s official match ball sponsor.

The club are also proud to announce that last seasons under 11’s captain Lucas Pilling has been selected into the Durham County Cricket Club under 12 squad for the forthcoming season.

Chairman Ian Palmer (pictured above) said: “Pilling’s selection, together with the acquisition of both Cavanagh and Young, is further testament to the great progress made throughout the club over the last few seasons.”
