Cricket Scoreboard: Second win on spin for Aycliffe

July 26th, 2016 Martin Walker Cricket 0 comments 0

Aycliffe won back-to-back league games for the first time this summer. Here’s this week’s cricket round-up…

Saturday 23rd July – NYSD Division 2
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Hartlepool 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Hartlepool 2nd XI 135 all out after 40.1 overs
Patrick Howe 4 for 19, Jack Slatcher 3 for 42 and Subhan Christudas 2 for 12
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 136 for 3 after 24. overs
Sam Telford 66, Adam Gittins 27 and Subhan Christudas 23 not out
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI won back to back league victories for the first time this season to ease their relegation worries after a comfortable seven wicket win at home to Hartlepool 2nd XI. Sam Telford (sponsored by Mr & Mrs Telford) continued his amazing season with yet another half century, his sixth of the season as he smashed 66 off only 38 balls, including 11 boundaries and two sixes, to earn the man of the match award. Aycliffe now have 193 points from 16 games and are 19 points clear of the drop zone, but have played a game more than their relegation rivals.

Saturday 23rd July – NYSD Division 3
Norton 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Norton won the toss and decided to bat first.
Norton 2nd XI 221 for 7 declared after 43.5 overs
Elliott Holt 3 for 49 and Joe Teasdale 2 for 54
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 99 all out after 24.2 overs
Graham Telford 38, Dan Craggs 20 and Stephen Sweeney 14.
The second team lost heavily by 122 runs away at NYSD division 3 leaders Norton 2nd XI. Opening batsman Graham Telford (sponsored by DS Fitting Services) was named man of the match after he top scored for Aycliffe with an excellent innings of 38. Aycliffe 2nd team now have 103 points from 12 games and with only 5 games remaining it look increasingly likely that they will finish in the bottom nine of the table and will therefore be part of the newly formed NYSD 4th division next season.

This week’s fixture:
Saturday 30th July at 1.00pm – NYSD Division 2 – Wolviston 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI
