A round-up of the weekend’s cricket action…

Newton Aycliffe had a frustrating draw away at Maltby 1st XI and needed only 18 runs to win from 17 overs, with seven wickets in hand, when the heavens opened and cruelly denied Aycliffe the win that their performance thoroughly deserved. Mark Woodhead (sponsored by Michaela’s Nails) was given the man of the match award for an excellent all round performance taking two wickets in the Maltby innings, then top scoring when Aycliffe replied with an unbeaten 44, which included five boundaries.

Aycliffe 2nd team now have 121 points from 16 games and with only one game remaining and sit in 14th place out of 18 in the NYSD 3rd division table.

This result gave Aycliffe the maximum 25 points and moves them up to mid table security with a new points total of 287 from 22 games and now have only two games remaining this season.
