A round-up of the weekend’s cricket action…

Saturday 27th August – NYSD Division 2
Maltby 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was cool with blustery showers. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and asked Maltby to bat first.
Maltby 1st XI 156 all out after 40.5 overs
Patrick Howe 3 for 21, Michael Howe 3 for 41 and Mark Woodhead 2 for 27
Newton Aycliffe 1st  XI 139 for 3 after 41.1 overs
Mark Woodhead 44 not out, Sam Telford 41 and Graham Telford 30.
Newton Aycliffe had a frustrating draw away at Maltby 1st XI and needed only 18 runs to win from 17 overs, with seven wickets in hand, when the heavens opened and cruelly denied Aycliffe the win that their performance thoroughly deserved. Mark Woodhead (sponsored by Michaela’s Nails) was given the man of the match award for an excellent all round performance taking two wickets in the Maltby innings, then top scoring when Aycliffe replied with an unbeaten 44, which included five boundaries.

Saturday 27th August – NYSD Division 3
Newton Aycliffe 2nd  XI v Rockliffe Park 1st XI – weather was cool with showers. Rockliffe Park won the toss and chose to bat first.
Rockliffe Park 1st XI 187 all out after 45 overs
Lucas Pilling 2 for 17, Dylan Tribley 2 for 20, Stephen Sweeney 2 for 29 and Elliott Holt 2 for 36
Newton Aycliffe 2nd  XI 109 all out after 40 overs
Elliott Holt 43, Stephen Sweeney 16 and James Layfield-Carroll 15
The second team were well beaten at home to promotion candidates Rockliffe Park 1st XI by 78 runs in their NYSD division 3 clash. Opener Elliott Holt earned the man of the match award for top scoring with 43 from only 31 balls faced and his innings included five boundaries and a six.

Aycliffe 2nd team now have 121 points from 16 games and with only one game remaining and sit in 14th place out of 18 in the NYSD 3rd division table.

Bank Holiday Monday 29th August – NYSD Division 2

Marton 2nd  XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was warm and sunny. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.
Newton Aycliffe 1st  XI 241 for 4 after 50 overs
Sam Telford 93, Mark Woodhead 58 not out and Graham Telford 41.
Marton 2nd XI 70 all out after 44 overs
Patrick Howe 4 for 27, James Layfield-Carroll 3 for 12 and Michael Howe 2 for 2.
Newton Aycliffe had a huge 171 run victory away at bottom club Marton 2nds and in the process assured themselves of remaining in the NYSD 2nd division next season. Jack Slatcher (sponsored by Mr & Mrs Greaves) won the man of the match award for some outstanding swing bowling and finished with the superb figures of 13 overs, 7 maidens and only 15 runs.

This result gave Aycliffe the maximum 25 points and moves them up to mid table security with a new points total of 287 from 22 games and now have only two games remaining this season.

Next week’s only fixture is:-

Saturday 3rd September at 12.30pm – NYSD Division 3 – Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Seaton Carew 2nd XI
