A round-up of the weekend’s cricket action…

Saturday 11th July – NYSD Division 2
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Wolviston 1st XI – weather was warm and sunny. Wolviston won the toss and chose to bat first.
Wolviston 1st XI 238 for 9 after 50 overs
John Cavanagh 3 for 31, Colin Myers 3 for 58 and Michael Howe 2 for 33
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 119 all out after 36 overs.
Michael Howe 37, Graham Telford 24 and Luke Telford 16
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI were well beaten at home to Wolviston by the huge margin of 119 runs. Michael Howe (sponsored by Yvonne and Bobby Wood) was given the man of the match award for a good all round display during which he top scored with 37 runs and also bowled well taking 2 for 33 from 8 overs. Aycliffe have now dropped to 6th in the 2nd division table with 210 points from 15 games played.

Saturday 11th July – NYSD Division 3
Wolviston 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was hot and sunny. Wolviston won the toss and asked Aycliffe to bat first.
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – 115 all out after 45.4 overs
Adam Gittins 37, Dan Bowmer 28 and Danny Weldon 11
Wolviston 2nd XI – 116 for 4 after 25 overs
Jack Slatcher 3 for 44 and James Brown 1 for 21
Newton Aycliffe lost by 6 wickets away at Wolviston 2nd XI. Captain Adam Gittins (Sponsored by Phoenix Energy) was nominated as man of the match for a workman like innings of 37, including 3 boundaries. Aycliffe seconds now have 141 points from 15 games and stay in 11th place in the NYSD 3rd division table.
