May 24th, 2016 Martin Walker Cricket 0 comments 0

A round-up of the weekend’s cricket action…

Saturday 21st May – NYSD Division 2

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Normanby Hall 2nd XI – weather was dry and cloudy. Aycliffe won the toss and Normanby Hall were asked to bat first.

Normanby Hall 2nd XI 180 all out after 31.2 overs
Patrick Howe 4 for 21 and James Layfield-Carroll 2 for 22

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 181 for 7 after 50.1 overs
Subhan Christudas 44, Daniel Bowmer 31 not out and Graham Telford 23

Aycliffe’s first team recorded an excellent three wicket home victory against table toppers Normanby Hall. Subhan Christudas was nominated as man of the match for holding the innings together with a hard working 44 runs off 76 balls, including four boundaries and a huge six. Credit must also go to 16 year old Dan Bowmer who held his nerve in a tense finale to help see the team to victory with a superb innings of 31 not out from 60 balls with five boundaries.

Saturday 21st May – NYSD Division 3

Wolviston 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was dry and cloudy. Aycliffe won the toss and asked Wolviston to bat first.

Wolviston 2nd XI 144 all out after 42.4 overs
Elliott Holt 4 for 27 (including a hat-trick), Ryan Patrick 2 for 20 and George Slatcher 2 for 30

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 63 all out after 32.2 overs
Tony Travis 14 and Stephen Sweeney 14

Aycliffe were well beaten away at Wolviston by 81 runs, but the match will be remembered for an outstanding personal milestone for spin bowler Elliott Holt who took a hat-trick during the homesides innings, finishing with 4 for 27 from his 8 over spell. It’s the first time for 16 years that this feat has been achieved by an Aycliffe second team player and only the third time in the club’s history.
A special mention must go to club stalwart Chris Palmer who played his 517th senior game for Aycliffe at Wolviston, breaking the club’s long standing appearance record of 516 games previously held by Secretary Lee Weldon. During this period, Chris captained the first team on 197 occasions and has scored 8,222 runs, including three centuries.

This week’s fixtures are:
Saturday 28th May at 1.00pm – NYSD Division 2 – Whitby 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI
and
Bank Holiday Monday 30th May at 1.00pm – NYSD Division 2 – Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Marton 2nd XI
