A round-up of the weekend’s cricket action…

Saturday 25th July – NYSD Division 2
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Stokesley 2nd XI – weather was overcast and cool. Aycliffe won the toss and asked Stokesley to bat first.
Stokesley 2nd XI 217 all out after 44.5 overs
John Cavanagh 5 for 65
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 186 all out after 45.5 overs.
Michael Howe 71, Tom Wickins 32 and John Cavanagh 21
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI were beaten at home by Stokesley 2nd XI by 31 runs. Michael Howe (sponsored by Yvonne and Bobby Wood) was given the man of the match award for his career best score of 71, his brilliant innings included five boundaries and two sixes. Aycliffe captain Chris Palmer reached a personal milestone as he made his 500th senior appearance for Aycliffe and needs only 17 more games to overtake the current record of 516 set by Lee Weldon. Aycliffe remain in 6th place in the 2nd division table with 239 points from 17 games played.

Saturday 25th July – NYSD Division 3
Blackhall 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was cool and overcast. Blackhall won the toss and decided to bat first.
Blackhall 2nd XI – 79 all out after 33.5 overs
Patrick Howe 3 for 19, Danny Weldon 3 for 21 and Jack Slatcher 3 for 33
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – 82 for 2 after 24.3 overs
Adam Gittins 38 not out, Joe Haines 18 not out and Patrick Howe 18
Newton Aycliffe had a comfortable eight wicket win away at third in the table Blackhall 2nd XI. Aycliffe seconds now have 181 points from 17 games and move up to 9th place in the NYSD 3rd division table
