A round-up of the weekend’s cricket action…

Saturday 30th April – NYSD Division 2

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Shildon 1st XI – weather was dry and sunny. Aycliffe lost the toss and were asked to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 124 all out after 46 overs
Mark Woodhead 31, Sam Telford 27 and Adam Gittins 21 not out

Shildon 1st XI 126 for 1 after 22.2 overs
Luke Telford 1 for 37

Aycliffe suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of local rivals Shildon by 9 wickets. Mark Woodhead (sponsored by Michaela’s Nails) was man of the match after his good performance with the bat.

Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May – NYSD Division 2

Hartlepool 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was dry and sunny. Hartlepool won the toss and chose to field first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 174 for 8 after 37 overs
Adam Gittins 55, Sam Telford 28 and Subhan Christudas 25

Hartlepool 2nd XI 68 for 9 after 37 overs
Colin Myers 4 for 16, Michael Howe 2 for 13 and James Layfield Carroll 2 for 15

Aycliffe played really well away at Hartlepool and were unlucky not to win as the homeside held out for a battling draw as they were nine wickets down at stumps. Adam Gittins (sponsored by GetMe CheapBills.com) was nominated as man of the match for scoring the team’s first half century of the season scoring 55 from 93 balls including six boundaries as Aycliffe picked up a welcome 15 points from the match.

Saturday 30th April – NYSD Division 3

Saltburn 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was dry and sunny. Saltburn won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 110 all out after 35.3 overs
Jack Slatcher 60, Dan Bowmer 27 and Pritpal Grewal 15

Saltburn 2nd XI 111 for 2 after 30.2 overs
Jack Slatcher 1 for 11 and Sean Lawless 1 for 20

The second team lost their first game of the season by 8 wickets away at Saltburn.
Jack Slatcher (sponsored by Mr & Mrs Greaves) was nominated as man of the match for his superb all round performance, but unfortunately he suffered a bad hand injury when trying for a catch and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment and later the same day underwent an operation to repair the damage.

Saturday 7th May at 1.00pm – NYSD Division 2 – Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Wolviston 1st XI
and
Saturday 7th May at 1.00pm – NYSD Division 3 – Redcar 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI
