Colour your Life exhibition at Greenfield Art Gallery

July 26th, 2017 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Members from a PCP Colour your Life art group have organised their own exhibition of their work at Greenfield Art Gallery running throughout August.

The exhibition, running from August 3-30, will showcase approximately 60 pieces of work produced by talented amateur artists, who all attend the Monday morning Colour your Life sessions at the Pioneering Care Centre in Newton Aycliffe.

The exhibition launch and preview night is taking place at Greenfield Arts and Community Centre on Wednesday August 2, from 6-8pm, when anyone is welcome to go along to meet the artists and find out more about what they get out of attending Colour your Life.

Sonia Burn, has been involved with Colour your Life for over five years. Sonia is a keen and talented artist and started as a volunteer and she is now employed by PCP to oversee the Monday member’s art group.

Sonia approached Sophie Lewis, Greenfield Arts and Community Centre Co-ordinator regarding the possibility of using their gallery space and booked a slot, well in advance due to popular demand, free of charge.

Sonia said: “There are so many talented people within our art group, this is a great opportunity to showcase their work and hopefully make them feel proud.

“Some pieces will be for sale and others will be temporarily borrowed from a ‘pride of place’ in their homes.

“Colour your Life is not just about making art, it’s about making friendships and this exhibition shows the diversity of the artwork produced by the group.

“It would be fantastic for people to go along to the exhibition to see the fantastic work on display. Please also leave a comment in the guest book if you do for the members to see.”

Colour your Life is a social prescribing project funded by Durham County Council and provides access to activities for the improvement of mental health and the development of emotional resilience.

The weekly Colour your Life sessions take place at the Pioneering Care Centre on Mondays 10am-12noon. Other weekly sessions include gardening on a Monday 10-12noon and a craft group every Tuesday 10-12.30. All classes take place in pleasant surroundings and give everyone the chance to learn new skills, make new friends and relax in a friendly atmosphere.
