Charity appeals for volunteer support for popular community service

August 2nd, 2021 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

A Newton Aycliffe-based charity is seeking volunteers to support an adult day service for those with physical and learning disabilities.

Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) has ran Options, a service dedicated to adults with learning and physical disabilities, since they opened their doors to the local community in 1998.

Volunteering with Options offers an opportunity to increase your skills and knowledge, whilst gaining experience of working with adults with physical and learning disabilities, supporting your local community and making a difference.

PCP chief executive Carol Gaskarth said: “Options is our longest running service that has many members who have been supported through the service since it first started.

“Options supports over 70 adults with learning disabilities and provides a programme of interesting, co-produced activities for members to lead positive fulfilling lives through sessions that focus on independent living skills, knowledge, informed choice, equality, and control in their daily lives.

“The support of volunteers has been so valuable in shaping our Option’s members lives, through fun, creative and challenging activities in a social setting.”

All volunteers will have an Induction to PCP and Options to help them to settle into the role and equip them with knowledge of the organisation and project.

Part of a volunteer role at PCP includes free training in Health and Safety, Moving and Handling, Fire Safety, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, GDPR and Equality and Diversity.

Options is based within the Pioneering Care Centre, Newton Aycliffe, but also supports members in the community, on health walks, day trips, café, and pub visits.

If you are interested in becoming an Options volunteer, get in touch for an informal chat with Linda West on [email protected]
