CAREERS FAIR AT WOODHAM ACADEMY

November 16th, 2012 Martin Walker News 0 comments 0

Woodham Academy held their annual Careers Fair for Year 11 and Year 10 students and their parents today (Thursday 15th November).

The aim of the event is to allow students to find out further information about a particular career or post 16 progression route.

Students can pick up applications and prospectuses, as well as get advice from a Careers Advisor or from any of the organisations represented.

This is particularly important in the light of government policy which sees a rise in the school leaving age to 17 for current Year 11 students.

Students leaving in the summer of 2015 will be required to stay in education, employment or training until the age of 18.

Associate Assistant Head Sarah McGinnety said: “It is crucial that our students have a deep understanding of the route they wish to follow in employment.

“They can then decide on which post 16 pathway is likely to be the best for them to achieve their goals.

“This is an excellent opportunity for students to conduct their own independent research which will inform their personal choice upon leaving Woodham.”

The event is traditionally well attended by both organisations, students and their parents and continues to be a huge success in terms of its outcomes, which sees the number of students continuing on into post 16 education, employment or training at Woodham Academy significantly above the county average.
