Students from Woodham Academy recently visited Berlin as part of a trip organised by the school’s history department.
Participants were taken on a guided tour around the city, where the history of Berlin through different eras was explained.
The group visited significant historical landmarks which they have been learning about in school.
On the second day, students were shown around the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp to see the conditions that prisoners would be held in.
The final day included a visit to the East Side Gallery which is the largest remaining section of the Berlin Wall.
Germany forms a significant part of the GCSE curriculum – and history teacher Miss Dixon said: “The trip was like a walking museum! Staff and students felt very lucky to be able to witness what we teach at GCSE History in person, it connected all the dots!”.
