Aycliffe’s Greggs named best in UK!

May 7th, 2015 Martin Walker News 1 comments 0

Newton Aycliffe’s Greggs shop is celebrating after being crowned the ‘Best in the UK’ by the high street retailer at its annual awards.

The Beveridge Way outlet received the accolade based on their excellent all round performance during the past 12 months, which includes demonstrating outstanding customer service, excellent shop standards, teamwork and sales.

As part of the reward for their fantastic performance throughout the year, board members from Greggs Head Office donned an apron and hairnet to take up their duties at the shop.

Now in its fourth year, the competition saw almost 1,700 Greggs shops compete for the title of ‘Best in the UK’.

Shops were awarded points on a weekly basis across a number of categories with those entering the final rounds of the competition receiving up to six unannounced visits by area managers, as well as Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside and Retail Director Raymond Reynolds, to assess standards.

Shop manager Nicole Price said: “When our names were called out we were literally speechless. I never imagined we would win! We plan on continuing to provide the best possible service for our local customers with a smile on our faces.”

Greggs retail director Raymond Reynolds said: “This is an incredible achievement by Nicola and all of her colleagues. It’s obvious how much they enjoy serving their local community and how committed they are to working to a particular standard.

“This award celebrates the excellent retail standards the team have created, they should all be extremely proud of themselves, just as we are to have them in our business.

“Having spent a day on the shop floor, we really appreciate the hard work and dedication they put in to offer our customers fresh food and outstanding service, every day.”

Congratulations to the team at Greggs. However I doubt they will have had to work too hard – if you look around the Town Centre if someone doesn’t have a cigarette in their mouth it’s a pasty or sausage roll!
