A Newton Aycliffe yob who terrorised residents and shopkeepers in the town has been handed a three-year ASBO.

On Tuesday this week, Durham Constabulary, in conjunction with Durham County Council’s ASB Team, successfully applied for an Anti-Social Behaviour Order against 21-year-old Aycliffe resident Lewis McCormick.

McCormick was said to have been involved in persistent anti-social behaviour, including intimidating members of the public and shopkeepers, being verbally abusive, fighting in a public place, and drunken and disorderly behaviour, particularly in the Neville Parade area.

PC Alan Thompson, who’s been working on the ASBO order, said: “Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood Police Team and DCC’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team have worked together with the local community to gather evidence over several months.

“Prior to making this application, attempts had been made to work with McCormick and offer support to address his behaviour, to no avail.”

The Court granted the ASBO for three years (until 2nd December 2016) with the following conditions:

Within Newton Aycliffe and Shildon areas, he is prohibited from:

● Harassing, intimidating, threatening, assaulting or abusing any person
● Entering any premises from which he has been barred in writing
● Remaining in any premises after being asked to leave
● Being drunk & disorderly in any open area or any location frequented by the public
● Encouraging others to commit any act prohibited by this order

McCormick is also prohibited from associated with particular individuals around Simpasture shops, and is barred completely from entering the area of Neville Parade shops.

Should McCormick breach any of these conditions he will be arrested for breach of ASBO (in addition to any criminal offences) and put before the Court.

Anyone who suspects McCormick may have breached his ASBO should ring Durham Police on 101.

In reply to the comment made above ,when your husband (clobbered)lewis as you put it lewis happened to be only 15 yrs old and this clobbering resulted in facial reconstructive surgery for a smashed cheek bone broken eye socket and jaw ,so if you think that your comment above makes your husband in any way a better person to the person you have the audacity to make comment on then please tell me how .and use of the word clobbered to trivialize what he did is a joke ( people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones )
