Woodham Academy’s Head of Technology gave a 30-minute presentation at the Royal Academy of Engineering at Prince Philip House in London.

Michael Nelson is the North East Regional STEM Teacher Coordinator and was asked to present to delegates from across the country describing all the projects that he has set up for schoolchildren across the north-east.

The connecting STEM Teachers Programme creates a network of support for teachers across all of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects, ensuring they have the knowledge and confidence to engage a greater number and wider spectrum of students in STEM.

“He has built a network of over 20 schools, since he became a Teacher Coordinator for the Connecting Teachers Project at the start of the 2012 academic year, and has consistently provided STEM teachers in his local schools with networking and continuing professional development,” said Woodham.

“Michael clearly understands the importance of providing students and teachers in his network of schools with an understanding of the world of work and, specifically, routes into engineering and manufacturing careers.”
