Aycliffe students talk at Great North Greats Conference

October 6th, 2015 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Greenfield College students were invited to the Great North Greats Conference as delegates and guest speakers to hear from inspirational speakers who have come from, reside in or make unbelievable things happen in our region.

The conference attracted an audience of 250, many of which were young people who are our next generation of innovators.

Speakers included Olympic Volleyball champions Nathan French and Peter Bakare, World class Scientist Danielle George and Shadow Culture Secretary Chi Onwurah.

Young people gathered from across the region to hear these fantastic talks one of which was delivered by Greenfield students from the Engine Heads Room 13 School in the Cloud Project.

They spoke articulately and with great passion alongside Professor Sugata Mitra about the power of Self Organised Learning and how the internet is changing the face of learning forever.

Students from both campuses of Greenfield described the conference as “a really good experience that made me think about what else is possible”.

Katy Milne, director of Arts and Creativity, said: “There is so much creativity and innovation that comes from our region, it was wonderful and uplifting to have some of those inspirational people together in one room.

“I was very proud of our young people who spoke so passionately about our School in the Cloud research and the way they are helping to develop teaching and learning in our school.”
