Aycliffe students enjoy Italian ski adventure

February 27th, 2025 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Students from Woodham Academy have recently returned from the snow-capped peaks of the Aosta Valley on their ski trip to the Aosta Valley in Italy.

The group skied in the resort of Pila, which has stunning panoramic views of the border of Switzerland, including famous landmarks such as Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn.

The group of 68 students acquitted themselves extremely well and showed excellent character and resilience, while overcoming the challenges presented by learning a new skill in the mountain environment, with many beginner groups progressing to red runs by the middle of the week.

Off the slopes, students explored the charming historic town of Aosta, where there are many Roman ruins that date back over 2000 years, savored authentic Italian cuisine and applied new language skills when purchasing souvenirs in the town, thereby enriching their cultural experiences.

Woodham deputy head teacher Danny Morgans said: “It’s wonderful to see the huge strides students make in so many different ways when they’re participating in such a trip.

“An international residential trip creates such diverse learning opportunities beyond the snow sports lessons.

“Along with activities like The Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme and further residential experiences, these opportunities demonstrate Woodham Academy’s continual commitment to offering educational experiences beyond that of the formal curriculum.”
