Aycliffe start new season in style with eight-wicket victory

Saturday 28th April – NYSD Division 2

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Stokesley 2nd XI – weather was cool and cloudy. Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Stokesley 2nd XI 123 all out after 43.2 overs
Jack Slatcher 3 for 25 and Michael Howe 4 for 34

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 124 for 2 after 25.5 overs
Darryn Bancroft 70, Adam Gittins 14 not out and Chris Palmer 12 not out

Newton Aycliffe’s first team began their new season with a comprehensive eight wicket victory at home to Stokesley 2nd XI. Opening batsman Darryn Bancroft (sponsored by Utility Warehouse) was given the man of the match award after top scoring with a superb 70 runs from just 58 balls faced and his memorable innings included seven boundaries and four massive sixes.

Saturday 28th April – NYSD Division 4

Sedgefield 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was cool and cloudy. Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Sedgefield 2nd XI for 190 for 62 after 40 overs
Neil Bancroft 3 for 33, Lucas Pilling 2 for 25 and George Slatcher 1 for 33.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 56 all out after 21.4 overs
Joe Haines 17 and Neil Bancroft 13 not out retired hurt

The second team were well beaten away at near neighbours Sedgefield 2nd XI by 134 runs. Veteran captain Neil Bancroft was awarded the man of the match award for a good all round display with three wickets, an unbeaten 13 with the bat and a comfortable catch.

Saturday 5th May, 1pm, NYSD Division 2 – Sedgefield 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI
Saturday 5th May, 1.30pm, NYSD Division 4 – Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Saltburn 2nd XI
