Aycliffe’s first team won their first game this season with a very convincing margin of 75 runs at home to Thornaby 2nd XI to earn the full 25 points.
Aycliffe batsman Adam Gittins continued his great start to the season with his second consecutive half century when he top scored with 71 runs. His superb innings lasted for 133 balls and he hit five boundaries.
Credit must also go to Aycliffe’s opening bowlers Michael Howe and Jack Slatcher who both took four wickets each when Thornaby replied.

Saturday 25th July – NYSD Division 4

Bedale 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was cloudy and mild. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 210 for 9 declared after 39 overs
Matty Greaves 50 not out, Kyle Robinson 25 and Owen Smith 25

Bedale 2nd XI 45 all out after 16.1 overs
Sean Morgan 6 for 9, Thomas Dearden 3 for 6 (including a hat-trick) and Leo Mercy 1 for 18

The 2nd team had a massive win by 165 runs away at Bedale 2nd XI and like their first team counterparts, also took all 25 points available.
There were a number of superb individual performances by Newton Aycliffe, 15 year old Matty Greaves (pictured above) hit his first senior half century when he top scored with an unbeaten 50. Also Greaves, together with 14 year old Owen Smith, put on 74 runs for the 9th wicket, which is a new 2nd team record for the ninth wicket partnership, beating the previous best by two runs.
Fast bowler Sean Morgan also deserves praise as he finished with career best figures of six wickets for just 9 runs. Finally, 13 year old Thomas Dearden, playing only his second senior game took the last three Bedale wickets to fall in consecutive balls becoming the youngest senior player and only the fourth player in the club’s history to take a second team hat-trick.
