Newton Aycliffe rounded off the campaign with a well-deserved 3-1 win against Guisborough.

Danny Lambert opened the scoring while top-scorer Danny Earl emphatically put the exclamation mark on his golden boot award with another two goals, taking his tally to 25 for the campaign.

It left the Newtonians 17th in the table following five wins in their last six games and will remain there providing Hebburn do not pick up four points from their final two games.

The Royal Blues took the lead against the Priorymen after 16 minutes. Paul Broom did superbly down the right and squared for fellow winger Lambert to prod home from close range.

Tom Hinchley went close to his seventh goal of the season when he headed wide from a corner soon after.

Five minutes before the break Aycliffe doubled the lead when a flowing move ended with Earl sliding the ball home from inside the area.

Lambert almost added a third on the stroke of half-time but his well-struck effort bounced back off the crossbar.

Earl came close after the interval after being found by Stuart Owen’s pass but the striker flashed an effort wide of goal.

But the visitors soon won a spot-kick as Darren Craddock brought down Michael Roberts in the area but the midfielder’s penalty bounced back of Scott Pocklington’s right-hand post.

Guisborough did manage to pull a goal back with 20 minutes left as Paul Callan forced the ball home from a corner.

But Allan Oliver’s men made sure of the points in the last 10 minutes as Earl raced on to a loose ball and calmly lobbed the stranded Guisborough keeper.
