Saturday 23rd August – NYSD Division 3
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Guisborough 2nd XI – the weather was cool and overcast. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Guisborough 2nd XI 118 all out after 37.1 overs
Matty Greaves 3 for 22, Will Dearden 2 for 18 and Ben Howard 2 for 20

Newton Aycliffe’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, battled hard to earn a tense two wickets victory at home to Guisborough 2nd XI.
Matty Greaves (sponsored by Britannia Fire) was the pick of the bowlers finishing with the excellent figures of nine overs, four maidens, three wickets for just 22 runs.
Sixteen-year-old Will Dearden also put in a good all round performance for Aycliffe. When the visitors batted he took two vital wickets for just 18 runs from his six over spell. The talented youngster then top scored in the Aycliffe reply with a stubborn 25 runs off 55 balls and his crucial innings included four boundaries and a six.
This victory consolidates fourth place for Aycliffe’s first team in the NYSD third division table with 264 points from 19 games played and now only three games remain this season.
Saturday 23rd August – NYSD Division 4
Wolviston 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – the weather was cool and overcast. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 163 for 3 after 40 overs
Freddie Lawler 72 not out, Trent Telford 52 not out and Matty French 12
Wolviston 2nd XI 167 for 2 after 32 overs
Miles Telford 1 for 22 Jon Tait 1 for 36
Aycliffe’s 2nd team were beaten away at Wolviston by eight wickets, but the game will be remembered for some excellent individual performances by a couple of the promising Aycliffe youngsters.
Opening batsman Trent Telford, unluckily out for 49 last week, made amends when the 14-year-old carried his bat for an excellent career best unbeaten 52 off 110 balls, including four boundaries.
Fourteen-year-old Freddie Lawler also hit a career best score when he finished with a superb unbeaten 72 off 78 balls and his innings included nine boundaries and a six.
And 13-year-old Miles Telford marked his senior debut by taking one of only two Wolviston wickets to fall in their reply, capping a memorable day for the two young Telford brothers.

Bank Holiday Monday 25th August – NYSD Division 4
Northallerton 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – the weather was hot and sunny. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Northallerton 2nd XI 200 for 9 declared after 38.5 overs
Leon Patel 4 for 45, Dan Weldon 3 for 25 and Shashank Garg 1 for 25
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 113 all out after 25.5 overs
Adam Shaw 49 not out, Dan Weldon 25 and Will Moffat 12
Aycliffe 2nds were defeated by 87 runs away at Northallerton 2nd XI in game played in very hot conditions.
Captain Dan Weldon (sponsored by Midland Structural Services) lead from the front putting in an excellent all round performance with bat and ball. During the homesides innings, Weldon bowled superbly in the heat to finish with 3 for 25 from his eight over spell. Then when Aycliffe replied, he scored 25 off 19 balls and his innings included six boundaries.
Special mention must also go to both Leon Patel, who finished with his career best bowling figures of 4 for 45 from 8.5 overs and to Adam Shaw, who top scored in the Aycliffe reply and was desperately unlucky not to get a deserved half century when he was left stranded on 49 not out off 42 balls and his career best innings included eight boundaries and a six.
