Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 5th July – NYSD Division 3

Whitby 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – the weather was warm with sunny spells. Whitby won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 159 all out after 38.4 overs
Will Dearden 45, Tom Dearden 37 and Chris Palmer 27

Whitby 2nd XI 161 for 3 after 31.3 overs
Tom Dearden 2 for 30 and Matty Greaves 1 for 40

Aycliffe’s first team made the long trek to improving Whitby 2nds and were comfortably defeated by seven wickets.

Asked to bat first, Aycliffe were bowled out for 159 and were thankful to the two young Dearden brothers for giving their innings some substance.

Will, 16, pictured above, top scored with his highest first team score of 45 from 51 balls faced and he hit seven boundaries.

Eighteen-year-old Tom (sponsored by Kevin Burton) also batted well, scoring 37 off 57 balls and he reached the boundary on seven occasions as well.

Aycliffe spin bowlers Tom Dearden (2 for 30) and Matty Greaves (1 for 40) had some success with the ball, but they couldn’t stop Whitby reaching their winning target with almost ten overs and seven wickets in hand.

Saturday 5th July – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Darlington RA 2nd XI – the weather was warm with sunny spells. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 48 all out after 19.4 overs
Matty Thompson 13

Darlington RA 2nd XI 50 for after 6.1 overs

The 2nd team were well beaten by ten wickets in a totally dominant performance by promotion candidates Darlington RA 2nds.

Only 19-year-old Matty Thompson managed to reach double figures in the Aycliffe innings, scoring 13 off 11 balls including three boundaries.

Sunday 6th July – Hambleton League

Newton Aycliffe Women v Northallerton Women – the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain.
