Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 21st June – NYSD Division 3

Yarm 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – the weather was very hot and humid. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Yarm 1st XI 278 for 6 after 40 overs
Will Dearden 3 for 65, Matty Greaves 1 for 41 and Jai Sander 1 for 43

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 95 for 7 after 38 overs
Ramzan Hussain 29 not out, Tez Smit 18 and Leon Patel 14

Aycliffe 1st team battled hard with the bat to earn a fighting draw away at Yarm 1sts after the home side had earlier scored an impressive 278 for 6 in their allotted 40 overs.

Aycliffe chose to bat first, but their young bowlers struggled in the humid conditions to make any real impact into the Yarm batting line up.

However, 16-year-old opening bowler Will Dearden did manage some success and finished his energy sapping ten overs with 3 for 65.

When Aycliffe replied, they lost wickets at regular intervals and were thankful to 19 year old Ramzan Hussain, who batted with considerable maturity to score a defiant unbeaten 29 off 83 balls and help his side earn a morale boosting draw.

Sunday 22nd June – Hambleton League

Newton Aycliffe Women v Thornton Watless Women – the weather was mild and overcast. Thornton Watless won the toss and chose to bat first.

Thornton Watless 60 for 6 after 16 overs (net score 230)

Newton Aycliffe 112 for 4 after 16 overs (net score 292)

Aycliffe Women (pictured) maintained top spot in the Hambleton League with a 62-run victory at home to Thornton Watlass Women.

Mother and daughter, Anneliese and Carys Myers took the honours with the ball as both bagged a couple of wickets each when the visitors batted.

When Aycliffe replied, all rounder Anneliese Myers was again in the action when she jointly top scored with an unbeaten 17 off 14 balls.
