Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 24th – NYSD Division 3

Normanby Hall 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was mild and overcast. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 224 for 6 after 40 overs

Chris Palmer 111 not out, Tez Smit 68, Ramzan Hussain 11 and Tom Dearden 11

Normanby Hall 2nd XI 160 all out after 37.1 overs
Ramzan Hussain 3 for 7, Matty Greaves 2 for 22 and Will Dearden 2 for 28

Aycliffe 1st team put in an excellent performance to win by 64 runs away at Normanby Hall 2nd XI and they picked up the maximum 25 points to help take them up into second place in the NYSD third division table.

Aycliffe captain Chris Palmer (sponsored by Vanila Design & Print, pictured above) was in tremendous form, equalling his career best score as he finished his memorable innings unbeaten on 111 from exactly a hundred balls faced. This was Palmer’s fourth career hundred and his superb innings included 12 boundaries and four sixes.

Ramzan Hussain was the most successful bowler in the six pronged Aycliffe attack, finishing with 3 for 7 to help bowl out the hosts with only 2.5 overs remaining.

Saturday 24th May – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Northallerton 2nd XI – weather was mild and overcast. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 89 all out after 38 overs
Alex Pollard 20, Dan Weldon 15 and Tony Travis 14

Northallerton 2nd XI 90 for 1 after 18.45 overs
Dan Weldon 1 for 19

The 2nd team were outplayed by Northallerton 2nds, losing at home by nine wickets in their NYSD fourth division match.

Alex Pollard top scored in the Aycliffe innings with 20 runs off 34 balls and included four boundaries.

Captain Dan Weldon (sponsored by Midland Structural Services Ltd) took the only visitors wicket to fall when he removed the opening batsman’s middle stump and finished his five over spell with 1 for 19.

Sunday 25th May – Hambleton League

Newton Aycliffe Women v Hutton Rudby Women – weather was mild with sunny spells. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Hutton Rudby 63 for 12 after 16 overs (net score 203)
Addison Jones 4 for 7 and Helen Winpenny 2 for 11

Newton Aycliffe 166 for 2 out after 16 overs (net score 356)
Tina Masterman 39 not out, Anneliese Myers 24 not out and Isabelle Tait 18 not out

Aycliffe Women kept up their unbeaten start to the season with a comprehensive win at home by 153 runs against Hutton Rudby.

Thirteen-year-old Addison Jones (sponsored by Amanda and Michael Collett) took the honours with the ball finishing with the superb figures of 4 for 7 from her 3 overs. When Aycliffe replied, opener Tina Masterman (sponsored by Lance Robson Dental Surgery) shone with the bat, top scoring with a whirlwind unbeaten 39 off just 16 balls.

Bank Holiday Monday 26th May – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Maltby 2nd XI – weather was cool and overcast. Maltby won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 80 all out after 28 overs
Shashank Garg 29, Matty French 12 and Chris Palmer 10

Maltby 2nd XI 81 for 2 after 13.5 overs
Matty Greaves 2 for 27

Aycliffe 2nds were well beaten by eight wickets at home to Maltby 2nd XI in a disappointing performance.

The only bright spots for Aycliffe were a good innings by Shashank Garg, who top scored with 29 off 28 balls and a couple of wickets and a catch for Matty Greaves when the visitors replied.
