Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 7th September – NYSD Division 2

Redcar 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was warm and overcast. Redcar won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 171 all out after 37.2 overs
Tom Dearden 52, Adam Gittins 41 and Chris Palmer 17

Redcar 1st XI 175 for 4 after 35.4 overs
Luke Telford 3 for 62

The first team were comfortably beaten by six wickets away at Redcar 1st XI, a result which confirmed Aycliffe’s relegation to the NYSD 3rd division after 11 seasons in the 2nd division.
Seventeen-year-old Tom Dearden (sponsored by Kevin Burton) again shone with the bat when he top scored with 52 off 42 balls, hitting 11 boundaries in the process.
Luke Telford also deserves credit after a marathon 15 over spell yielded figures of 3 for 62 for his endeavours.

Special mention must go to batsman Adam Gittins, who scored 41 runs in this game and in the process became only the third player in the club’s history to pass the 7,000 run landmark for the club.
After 21 games, the first team have 185 points and remain 2nd bottom of the NYSD 2nd division table with just one last game to play in this division this season.

Saturday 7th September – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Yarm 2nd XI – weather was warm and overcast. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Yarm 2nd XI 137 all out after 34.2 overs
Leon Patel 3 for 23, Leo Mercy 3 for 24 and Matty Greaves 2 for 34

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 121 all out after 31.5 overs
Leo Mercy 30, Matty French 23 and Adam Shaw 21 not out

The club’s second team lost by just 16 runs in a close game at home to Yarm 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th division.
Leo Mercy (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood) had an excellent all round game for Aycliffe. Firstly taking 3 for 24 from his 9.2 overs when the visitors batted. He then top scored with 30 off 73 balls, including four boundaries in the Aycliffe run chase.
After 23 games, the second team have 191 points and remain in 9th place in the fourth division table with just one final game to play this season.
Adam Dew (pictured above) was 21 not out.
