Saturday 13th July – NYSD Division 2

Barnard Castle 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was cool and showery Barnard Castle won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 161 all out after 28.4 overs
James Layfield-Carroll 38, Joe Teasdale 35 and Chris Palmer 25

Barnard Castle 2nd XI 165 for 4 after 29.4 overs
Tom Dearden 2 for 40, Luke Telford 1 for 38 and James Layfield-Carroll 1 for 50

The first team lost by six wickets away at top of the table Barnard Castle.
Captain James Layfield-Carroll (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood) top scored with 38 runs off 39 balls and his innings contained a couple of boundaries and two sixes. He then chipped in with 1 for 50 off ten overs with the ball when the home side replied.
After 12 games games, the first team have 102 points and remain just a single point above the relegation places and sit in 10th position in the NYSD 2nd division table.

Saturday 13th July – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Skelton Castle 1st XI – weather was cool and showery. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 208 for 6 declared after 33.3 overs
Ramzan Hussain 114, Matt French 29 and Matty Greaves 14

Skelton Castle 1st XI 141 for 7 after 32 overs
Leon Patel 3 for 25, Matty Greaves 2 for 12 and Ramzan Hussain 1 for 13

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI could only manage a draw in a rain affected game at home to Skelton Castle 1st XI. When the visitors replied, their innings was reduced to 32 overs, rather than the usual 40 overs as a vital eight overs were lost due to the rain interruptions and this proved crucial as Skelton hung on for a draw.
However the match will live the long in the memory after an outstanding innings by 18-year-old Ramzan Hussain (pictured above, sponsored by Athena Sports Academy) who scored his maiden senior century. The talented youngster was eventually dismissed for a superb career best 114 off just 66 balls and his remarkable innings contained 18 boundaries and four huge sixes.
After 13 games, the second team have 125 points and sit comfortably in eighth place in the fourth division table.
