Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 6th July – NYSD Division 2

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Stockton 2nd XI – weather was cool and cloudy Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Stockton 2nd XI 111 all out after 38.4 overs
James Layfield-Carroll 6 for 40, Luke Telford 2 for 6 and Ben Howard 2 for 18

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 114 for 5 after 29 overs
Adam Gittins 36 not out, Terence Smit 27 and Luke Telford 19

The first team put in a solid performance to win the battle of the two basement teams by five wickets at home to Stockton 2nd XI.
Captain James Layfield-Carroll (sponsored by Yvonne and Bobby Wood, pictured above) put in a tremendous performance with the ball finishing his unbroken 15 over spell with six wickets for 40 runs, which were the second best bowling figures of his career.
In reply Adam Gittins batted superbly, holding the innings together and top scoring with an unbeaten 36 off 77 balls and his vital innings included five boundaries.
After eleven games, the first team have 97 points and move out of the relegation places into 10th place in the NYSD 2nd division table.

Saturday 6th July – NYSD Division 4

Bedale 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI.

The second team were given the full 25 points when their opponents Bedale 2nd XI were unable to field a team in their scheduled NYSD fourth division match.
After 12 games, the second team have 109 points and move up to 8th place in the fourth division table.

Saturday 13th July at 1.00 pm – NYSD Division 2 – Barnard Castle 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI
Saturday 13th July at 1.00 pm – NYSD Division 4 – Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Skelton Castle 1st XI
