Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 22nd June – NYSD Division 2

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Redcar 1st XI – weather was warm and sunny. Redcar won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 155 all out after 38.4 overs

Redcar 1st XI 156 for 7 after 44.4 overs
Leo Mercy 2 for 24, Luke Telford 2 for 52 and Tom Dearden 1 for 16

The first team battled hard but were eventually defeated by just three wickets at home to Redcar 1st XI.
Chris Palmer had a welcome return to form, top scoring with 37 runs off 45 balls, including seven boundaries and in the process extended his tremendous club record impressive runs tally past the 11,000 runs milestone.
Leo Mercy (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood) followed up his gritty 11 not out in the Aycliffe innings, to remove both Redcar’s openers in an excellent seven over spell with the ball to finish with 2 for 24.
After nine games, the first team have 69 points and remain entrenched at the bottom of the second division table.

Saturday 22nd June – NYSD Division 4

Yarm 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Yarm won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 129 all out after 37.1 overs
Matty Greaves 50, Matty French 24 and Will Dearden 12 not out

Yarm 2nd XI 95 all out after 37.4
Ramzan Hussain 4 for 19, Matty Greaves 3 for 29, Will Dearden 2 for 13 and Will Moffatt 1 for 26.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI put in their best performance of the season to come out on top by 34 runs in a tough game away at Yarm 2nd XI.
Matty Greaves (sponsored by Athena Sports Academy, pictured above)) put in an excellent all round performance scoring his first half century for four seasons when he top scored with exactly 50 off 71 balls, including seven boundaries. He then followed this with the ball, taking 3 for 29 from his ten over spell when the home side replied.

Credit must also go to 18 year old Ramzan Hussain who bowled superbly to finish with career best figures of 4 for 19 off 8.4 overs and all his victims were clean bowled.
After ten games, the second team have 81 points and move up a place to 11th in the fourth division table.
