Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 11th May – NYSD Division 2

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Richmond 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Richmond won the toss and chose to bat first.

Richmond 2nd XI 144 all out after 33.3 overs
Ben Howard 4 for 38, Luke Telford 3 for 15 and James Layfield-Carroll 2 for 26

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 58 all out after 21.1 overs

Aycliffe’s first team were well beaten by 86 runs at home to Richmond 2nd XI.
Credit must go to debutant Ben Howard who bowled ten overs and finished with the excellent figures of four wickets for 38 runs.
Luke Telford (sponsored by JR Smith Electrical Services) also had a good game, taking 3 for 15 in the Richmond innings and then top scoring with 19 off 23 balls, including four boundaries, when Aycliffe replied.
After three games, the first team have 32 points and sit in 8th place in the second division table.

Saturday 11th May – NYSD Division 4

Yarm 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was sunny and warm. Yarm won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 78 all out after 30.2 overs
Dan Bowmer 18 and Ramzan Hussain 18

Yarm 1st XI 79 for 3 after 13.3 overs
Leo Stout 2 for 39 and Ramzan Hussain 1 for 10

The club’s 2nd XI were easily beaten by seven wickets away at promotion favourites Yarm 1st XI.
Eighteen-year-old Ramzan Hussain (pictured above, sponsored by Athena Sports Academy) continued his fine start to the season with another good all round performance. First he was the joint top scorer in the Aycliffe innings with 18 runs off 25 balls, including two sixes, then he held onto a good catch and also took a wicket when the home team replied.
After four games, the second team have 29 points and sit in 9th place in the fourth division table.

Saturday 18th May at 1.00 pm – NYSD Division 2 – Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Saltburn 2nd XI
Saturday 18th May 1.00 pm – NYSD Division 4 – Maltby 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI
