Saturday 10th June – NYSD Division 2

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Darlington 2nd XI – weather was hot and sunny. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Darlington 2nd XI 285 for 5 declared after 47 overs
Matty Greaves 2 for 39, Sam Telford 1 for 22 and James Layfield-Carroll 1 for 43

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 234 for 7 after 53 overs
Chris Palmer 78, Sam Telford 66 and Adam Gittins 39

Aycliffe would of set a new club record if they had managed to overtake promotion candidates Darlington 2nds huge total of 285 for 5, so were happy to settle instead for a well deserved draw when they reached a very creditable 234 for 7 at stumps.

The club’s all time leading run scorer Chris Palmer (sponsored by Vanila Design & Print, pictured above) extended his record still further when he top scored in the Aycliffe reply with a superb 78 off 71 balls and his innings included 13 boundaries and three sixes.
Aycliffe picked up nine bonus points from their draw with Darlington 2nds and have now accrued 75 points from eight games played and remain in ninth place in the NYSD 2nd division table.

Saturday 10th June – NYSD Division 4

Wolviston 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was hot and sunny. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 112 all out after 24.3 overs
Ramzan Hussain 37, Tom Dearden 16 and Adam Shaw 15

Wolviston 2nd XI 113 for 5 after 24.4 overs
Terence Smit 2 for 3, Dan Heaton 2 for 32 and Tom Dearden 1 for 30

Newton Aycliffe’s second team fought hard but were eventually defeated by five wickets away at Wolviston 2nd XI.
Debutant Terence Smit, playing his first game for five years made an immediate impact at his new club scoring 14 runs when Aycliffe batted and he then took two wickets and also held onto a catch during the homeside’s reply.
Special mention must go to Ramzan Hussain who top scored in the Aycliffe innings with 37 runs from 37 balls and including six boundaries.
After ten games, the 2nd XI have picked up 84 points and remain in seventh place in the NYSD fourth division table.
