Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 20th August – NYSD Division 2

Norton 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was windy with sunny spells. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Norton 1st XI 243 all out after 49.1 overs
Sean Morgan 4 for 48, Matty Greaves 3 for 32 and James Layfield-Carroll 2 for 56

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 93 all out after 27.2 overs
Sean Morgan 19 not out, Owen Smith 17 and Luke Telford 16

The first team were well beaten away at league leaders Norton 1st XI by a huge 150 runs in a very poor performance.
The only player to emerge with any credit was all rounder Sean Morgan who took 4 for 48 with the ball and then top scored with an unbeaten 19 off 45 balls, including four boundaries, when Aycliffe replied.
Aycliffe first team picked up 7 bonus points from this defeat and they remain in 10th place in the 2nd division table with 223 points from 20 games played and with just two games remaining this season.

Saturday 20th August – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Preston 1st XI – weather was windy and overcast. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 175 all out after 35.3 overs
Dan Weldon 85, Ramzan Hussain 24 and Jai Sander 13

Preston 1st XI 131 for 4 after 31.1 overs
Harrison Pearson 2 for 15, Matty French 1 for 6 and Ryan Patrick 1 for 26

Newton Aycliffe’s young second team continued their recent good run and came away with a winning draw after torrential rain brought a premature end to proceedings in their home game against Preston 1st XI.
Vice captain Dan Weldon (pictured above) was in tremendous form dominating the Aycliffe innings and top scoring with a superb 85 off 83 balls faced. Weldon’s third half century of the season contained 12 boundaries and a six before he was last man out when caught on the boundary.
Aycliffe moved up to 9th place in the table after picking up 14 points from their excellent draw and now have 156 from 18 games played and they still have four games remaining this season.
