Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 6th August – NYSD Division 2

Barnard Castle 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was mild with sunny intervals. Barnard Castle won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 217 all out after 50 overs
Adam Gittins 85, Joe Teasdale 29 and Sean Morgan 22

Barnard Castle 2nd XI 218 for 7 after 41.1 overs
Matty Greaves 4 for 51, Luke Telford 2 for 45 and Tom Dearden 1 for 29

The first team put in a fighting performance, but still lost by just three wickets away at Barnard Castle 2nd XI.
Adam Gittins (pictured above) top scored for Aycliffe with a truly brilliant innings of 85 from 136 balls faced and his memorable effort included 13 boundaries and a six.
Club stalwart Gittins then capped an excellent individual performance when he held onto a catch during Barnard Castle’s innings to become the first person in the club’s history to take 150 outfield catches for Newton Aycliffe CC.
17 year old spin bowler Matty Greaves continued his recent good form when he finished with 4 for 51 from his long 12.1 over spell.
Aycliffe first team picked up 7 bonus points from this defeat and they dropped down to 9th place in the 2nd division table with 207 points from 18 games played with just four games remaining this season.

Saturday 6th August – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Yarm 2nd XI – weather was mild with sunny intervals. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Yarm 2nd XI 71 all out after 20.5 overs
Will Dearden 4 for 15, Leo Mercy 3 for 38 and Harrison Pearson 2 for 10

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 73 for 2 after 11.1 overs
Ryan Patrick 32 not out and Jai Sander 27

Newton Aycliffe’s youngster’s were in superb form as they comprehensively defeated Yarm 2nd XI at home by eight wickets.
13 year old opening bowler Will Dearden was in outstanding form as he ripped apart the Yarm top order, taking a senior career best 4 for 15 from his five over spell.
A special mention must go to 15 year old wicket keeper Adam Shaw, who equalled the 2nd team club record after an excellent display behind the stumps claiming four dismissals (3 catches and 1 stumping) during the visitor’s innings.
Aycliffe seconds rushed to victory after only 11.1 overs and the twenty points gained takes their seasonal total to 117 from 16 games played and they swap places with Yarm in the table and move up to tenth.
