Aycliffe first team won back to back league games over three days over the holiday weekend, firstly convincingly beating Middlesbrough 2nd XI by 119 runs and then defeating promotion chasing Norton 1st XI by 33 runs to complete the perfect weekend.
Aycliffe fast bowler James Layfield-Carroll (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood) put in a terrific performance with the ball during the win away at Middlesbrough taking a season’s best 5 for 18 from 9.3 overs.
15 year old Tom Dearden (sponsored by Kevin Burton) followed up last week’s hundred for the second team with the top score for the first team in their impressive victory at home to Norton 1st XI. The talented youngster completed a memorable week by hitting a first team best of 65 not out from 101 balls and his superb innings contained five boundaries and a six.
The maximum 50 points gained from these two victories takes Aycliffe’s first team to 122 points and moves then from 10th up to 7th in the NYSD 2nd division table.
