Great Aycliffe Town Council are constantly looking for new and interesting ways to engage local people in their local environment.
A series of countryside half term events for the whole family themed around animals and where they live will be taking place next week over the school half term.
Interesting and exotic creatures both large and small will be coming along to Moore Lane Eco Centre with their handlers from Krafty Kritters, who will help explain how and why these animals adapt to suit their own natural habitats.
After the talk we hope to explore around the park at Moore Lane in search of the amazing British relatives of these animals to see how these creatures survive and adapt to our occasionally harsh climate.
The event is free of charge and will take place on Tuesday 19th February at 2pm.

Even if we do not always see our furry and feathered wild friends we can still turn detective and look for the tell tale signs that they leave behind.
On Wednesday 20th February at 2pm you can spend a few hours looking around Byerley Park Local Nature Reserve for these tell tale signs. The event will begin from the information board near Ranulf Court, Byerley Park.
The Town Council are also encouraging local residents to join a page on Facebook which aims to positively promote the town’s natural greenspaces and things that take place in these areas.
Followers will be kept updated as to what is happening around the town in terms of countryside events and things to see and do.
The page will let them know about any local public events, national or regional wildlife campaigns and/or news that followers and their families may wish to know about.
As well as, letting them know about any wildlife events such as frogs spawning, when any interesting plants or animals arrive and where to see them.
In return, followers are asked to tell others about any interesting wildlife sightings they have seen around the town and its surroundings and generally spread the word about the Facebook page.
