ACORN gearing up for annual children’s fun day

ACORN Residents Association hold their annual children’s fun day this week.

Held between 11am and 3pm on Friday 24th July, on the Christopher Walk Community Green, the event gives visitors the chance to experience new things and have a great day out with all the family.

It’s all about animals this year with a double decker bus of farmyard animals including rabbits and ponies giving the children the chance to see and touch animals.

“We are always interested in giving people opportunities that they wouldn’t normally get,” said organiser Ken Robson (pictured above), chairman of ACORN.

“We like to give people new experiences that they may not usually be able to afford, like here at the event children can ride the ponies for free.”

Activities this year include children’s fairground rides, a large inflatable slide, a bouncy castle, pony rides, Professor Nincompoop, Harry Potty, dancing and other games.

Supporting various charities each year, proceeds from the tombola will be split between the ACORN Residents Association and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The police beat team and fire service will also be there to offer demonstrations and let the children sit in the fire engine.

“With all kinds of other entertainment on the day, we like to encourage the children to get involved and have fun moving around, which leads to exercise which is great and they don’t even realise,” adds Ken.

“There is something for everyone and people of all ages are welcome!”
