Local Ford dealership Holiways was placed into administration, a man is dramatically rescued from a flat fire and a new £8m biogas centre for Aycliffe gets the green light.

August was another busy month for Newton Aycliffe. Our coverage, yet again, unrivalled.

Today, we continue our series of monthly reviews, looking back on a memorable debut year for Aycliffe Today.

AUGUST

Local Ford dealership Holiways was placed into administration – just a week after the company’s boss told us categorically it wouldn’t be. Read more here.

In other business news, a new £8m biogas centre for Aycliffe gets the green light (read more), and local steel firm Finley Structures announce their plans to breathe new life into the old Presswork Metals factory on Aycliffe Business Park (read more).

A Newton Aycliffe man was facing jail after a drunken knife attack in which a soldier nearly lost his thumb. Read more.

Two men were arrested following a burglary (read more), while another Aycliffe man smashed a car window and abused a couple in their home after drinking for several hours with friends (read more).

A police firearms team was called out to the Tesco area of Newton Aycliffe on after a knife was found (read more) while local officers seized an off-road trial bike that was causing anti-social problems in the Horndale area of the town (read more).

Neville Parade shops gets a £70,000 makeover thanks to GAMP cash. Read more.

Woodham Academy reveal plans for a new £20,000 Multimedia suite in time for the new school year (read more), while they also reveal their new American Football Academy (read more).

In sport, Rugby legend Rob Andrew visits Aycliffe Sports Club as the town’s rugby club present a charity cheque, while club boss Bob Malvern calls it a proud day for the town. Read more.

The town’s football club are knocked out of the FA Cup with a disappointing defeat at Holker, near Barrow-in-Furness. Read more.
