100 youngsters take part in fitness extravaganza!

March 5th, 2019 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

A hundred children from eight primary schools took part in the inaugural Fit for Life Festival at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.

The youngsters took part in a carousel of activities which included skill stations and workout stations.

The event is the first of its kind to be delivered to Primary School children in the area.

Children enjoyed learning new skills including barbell movements with a plastic pipe and weighted medicine ball movements.

The workouts the children took part in tested their fitness and determination, as well as their teamwork skills as they worked in teams of two, four or six.

All children were fantastic at the event and now have the opportunity to join two community clubs.

The event was run by Sedgefield School Sport Partnership, which has designed and implemented the Fit for Life programme in their member primary schools.

“We are on a mission to improve the health and wellbeing of children in our area and beyond,” said Sarah Price, Sedgefield SSP manager and strategic lead of Fit for Life.

“It has been great seeing all the children enjoying taking part in fitness activities, getting really out of breath and working hard!

“There are so many benefits to taking part in physical activity, including improved physical health, improved emotional health and wellbeing and the development of life skills.

“We want all children to experience these benefits and lead happy, healthy lives!”
