Looking to improve their fortunes this week, the panel run their eye over the bottom-half trip to Benfield…
Tuesday night aside, it’s been a good couple of weeks for the club. The losing run was ended, in the league and the FA Vase, the defensive solidity has returned and a bit of pace has been injected into the side thanks to the two Dannys – Earl and Lambert. The other Danny may not be as quick, but Mellanby has added that bit of know-how to the attack and his suspension doesn’t kick in for two weeks, so he’ll be available on Saturday. Newcastle Benfield have been struggling – three defeats on the trot without a goal scored. That run shouldn’t end against Scott Pocklington, Darren Craddock and Mark Peck. Time for Aycliffe to go on a winning run.
Newcastle Benfield 0-2 Newton Aycliffe
I’m not counting Tuesday’s disaster as a proper game, as we didn’t have three of the core members of our team, and as the Darlington fans say. it was only a cup game anyway! So with that in mind we’ve kept two clean sheets in the last three, and only let in one goal, against the league leaders, so we’re bang in form by our own standards so far this term. Benfield are on a poor run, three straight defeats, but we’ll not take that lightly; remember, we’ve not yet beaten them in our history. Until now. The big boys are back, the skipper was rested by Chelsea on Wednesday night and we’re gonna win! Simple as.
Newcastle Benfield 1-3 Newton Aycliffe
Benfield had to start the season with six consecutive away games and Saturday will be their third straight home league game, following 2-0 defeats against Spennymoor and Billingham Synthonia, but Benfield are one of those teams you can never write off. They’re seasoned, with loads of experience, and even though we’ll be much-improved from Tuesday night’s dismal cup defeat, I’m going for a 1-1 draw.
Benfield 1-1 Newton Aycliffe
